We recommend our customers not to rely on just a Safety Certificate when buying a vehicle. This is only a basic check that the vehicle is roadworthy. However, this does not mean that the vehicle is mechanically correct. To know exactly what you are buying, we can assist you with a Pre-purchase Inspection on the vehicle. Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) is officially called Safety Certificate in Queensland.
According to the Codes of Practice a safety check covers: wheels and tyres (damage, puncture, wear and tread depth across full width, etc.); body rust and damage; brakes and handbrake (condition of linings and associated attachments); steering, suspension and drive-train (loose joints, leaks, etc.); windscreen and windows; lights; dash warning lights; seats and restraints; modifications; road test.
Please note: some of these are not applicable for motorbikes.
Pre-purchase VISUAL Inspection examines the vehicle’s current state of condition, including
・ any visible rust, oil and coolant leaks,
・ any visibly deteriorating parts and components which may need to be attended in the near future.
Pre-purchase VISUAL and AUDIBLE Inspection covers checks for: engine; transmission; transaxle; differential assemblies; all aspects of safety, including:
・ seat belt condition and function,
・ electronic stability systems (ABS functions if applicable),
・ other safety items (brakes, suspension and steering),
・ on-board electronics (for correct and proper function such as electric windows, mirrors, seats, heating and A/C, on-board sensors, warning lights, exterior and interior lighting, entertainment systems, etc.)
